The Holistic Body Journal

WHY JOURNALING?

Journaling has always been one the most useful tools for self improvement and development.

First, when we journal, we don’t feel judged, so we are better able to be honest with our feelings without the fear of what others might think of us. Another benefit of journaling is that it makes you feel accountable for your actions so there is less chance for you to make excuses when it comes to achieving your goals. Finally, journaling allows you to reflect on your short- and long-term goals so you can see your target more clearly.

This is why we have created this journal. With it, our mission is to help you change a mindset of self-punishing and restrictions to a mindset of self-love and healthy habits, create short term and long-term goals and plans and accelerate your progress.

How does it work?

POSITIVE BODY AFFIRMATIONS & GRATITUDE

The most common issue is that most people start their fitness and wellbeing journey on a negative note. They start their journey because they are not happy with the way they look or feel, and they do not love their body, so they start with restrictions and denying themselves.

With this journal, we want people to love themselves despite them having not changed yet and enjoy the process of getting healthier. The way we start this process is by writing down a few simple affirmations and things your are grateful for about your body in the first section.

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.

They can be statements such as: My body is healthy; My body is healing; My muscles are strong etc. This will empower you to embrace the many wonderful aspects of your body and shift your mindset so you are not only saying these affirmations, but you will begin to believe them.

We also use gratitude to make you appreciate what you have rather than what you don't have. Gratitude can change your life because it is the single most powerful source of inspiration that any person can tap into if they simply just stop and paid attention to what they already have and to what their body already is. You can be grateful for things such as: I am grateful that my body allows me to workout and exercise ; I am grateful that my body is healthy and strong ; I am grateful that my body has always taken care of me even when I haven't ; or anything else you are grateful for your body. Use this section to show love to yourself and your body.

GOAL SETTING

We have noticed in a lot of people is that they do not know what they really want and what they want to change in their body. “I want to lose fat”. How much do you want to lose and where do you want to lose fat? “I want to gain muscle and get stronger” How much muscle do you want to gain and how much stronger do you want to get? The way the law of attraction works is by being specific and detailed about exactly what you want to achieve.

If you do not know what you want to change, you will not know how to change it. That is why we set short term and long-term goals,

to keep us focused in the right direction. We all know that setting goals is important, but we often do not realise how important it is to continue to set goals for ourselves throughout life.

Setting goals helps trigger new behaviours, helps guide your focus and helps you sustain that momentum in life. Goals also help align your focus and promote a sense of self-mastery. The second section of this journal is dedicated to your short- or long-term goals so you have a clear picture in mind of what you want to change and how you want to feel. In this section, write down short- or long-term goals, be clear and straightforward about what you want to change in the way you look, feel or a habit you want to change, because when you have a target, it is easier to get there and you can measure the progress you make.

PLANNING & TAKING ACTION

Another observation we have made is that even if people know what they want to change, they do not know how they are going to go about it. Joining the gym or running everyday is not the answer because those are the tools, not the game plan.

Having a plan is important because it is the foundation in helping you achieve your objectives and your ultimate goals. Having a plan helps you define the full scope of a project, but it also helps you stay focused, set goals and objectives, meet deadlines and measure success.

You do not have to have it all figured out, but you need a game plan, so you know what your next steps are going to be. You can set daily tasks such as eating healthier or exercising to long term goals such as quitting certain habits or lifestyle changes.

Always remember that big changes happen when we make small changes every day. Set daily tasks you can achieve and start off with baby steps and those baby steps will lead to significant progress. Do not beat yourself up if one day you are off track, it happens to everyone and one day does not and will not ruin all your progress. Our advice to whenever you have a bad day is to let it go, make peace with it and to go back to your healthy routine the next day.

VISUALIZE & FEEL

In the last section, we want you to work on something that we have always practiced ourselves and inspired others to follow as well but most people have never thought of it as a tool to speed up and help them with their fitness and wellbeing. Close your eyes and visualise yourself having the body you always wanted, be that by the way it looks or the way it feels. Now, identify the feeling and just enjoy it for a moment.

Enjoy the feeling of having a strong and healthy body, having achieved your weight target or being more energetic than ever.

Write down how you feel and see the changes happen even faster than you thought. You do not need to wait for your body to change in order to feel good, you can choose to feel good now.

It is important to understand that because that is all you need to give you the motivation required right now. You do not need a condition to feel happy. Just imagination is enough to give your brain the sensation that it’s real. By doing this every day you will make it happen internally and as Bob Proctor says “If you see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand”, you will be closer to your goals and having the body you want, being healthier than you have ever been and loving yourself will become your new normal.
